Selector Lever Cable, Bringing into Basic Setting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry Lever - Remove Outside Mirror (80 - 200)

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B)

Socket and key (T40031)

Procedure

"Guided Fault Finding" with Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) is complete.





Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) connected, "Vehicle On Board Diagnosis" and vehicle system "02 - Transmission electronics" selected.

Display on (VAS 5051B):





- In selection - 1 -, press "Measured values" function and continue by pressing -> button.

Display on (VAS 5051B):





- In button field - 1 -, press button 2 for "Display group 2" and confirm the entry by pressing the Q button.

Selector lever position comparison with position on Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch (F125):





Display on (VAS 5051B):

- Compare display in field - 1 - to position on selector lever with Selector Lever Transmission Range (TR) Position Display (Y26) on selector mechanism and Transmission Range (TR) Display (Y6) in instrument cluster.

The displays must match

If displays do not match:

- Adjust selector lever cable => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting

If individual displays cannot be reached by adjusting the selector lever cable:

Selector lever cable, bringing into basic setting:





- Unclip mounting frame for selector lever boot - 1 - from center console and lift it upward and off - arrows -.

- Place selector lever in position "D".

- Through opening - arrow - in shift mechanism, loosen bolt on selector lever cable approximately one turn using Socket (T40031).





Only loosen the clamping bolt - do not remove it.

Clamping bolt is only accessible in selector lever position "D".

Selector lever must remain in position "D" while clamping bolt is loose.

- Remove front and rear noise insulation by loosening fasteners - 2 - and, if equipped, - arrow -.





- Remove bolt - 1 - support bracket for selector lever cable.





- Press selector lever cable ball socket - A - off selector shaft lever using the Pry Lever - Remove Outside Mirror (80 - 200).





Take care not to bend or kink selector lever cable.

- Press selector shaft lever - A - on transmission completely toward rear - arrow - until parking lock engages.





When parking lock is engaged, it must not be possible to turn both front wheels in one direction at the same time.

- Then press selector shaft forward 3 detents so transmission is in "D" position.

- Ensure selector lever in vehicle is also in "D" position.

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) connected, "OBD", Vehicle System "02 - Transmission Electronics" and "Measured Values" selected.





Selector lever position comparison with position on Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch (F125):

Display on (VAS 5051B):

- Compare display in field - 1 - to position on selector lever with Selector Lever Transmission Range (TR) Position Display (Y26) on selector mechanism and Transmission Range (TR) Display (Y6) in instrument cluster.

The displays must match

Take care not to bend or kink selector lever cable.

Lightly grease eyelet and ball socket of selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2) before installing.





- Carefully press selector lever cable ball socket - 5 - onto selector shaft lever - 7 - in this position.

Take care not to bend selector shaft lever when pressing it on; support it if necessary, as otherwise selector mechanism can no longer be adjusted properly.

- Attach support bracket - 4 - to console.

- Adjust selector lever cable => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting.

- Check shift mechanism => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] 01J Continuously Variable Transmission.
