Valve Body: Service and Repair
Mechatronic Unit
• Always replace the mechatronic unit if it is dirty or defective.
• General repair information. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.

Removing
CAUTION!
Note the instructions for disconnecting the battery.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Remove the luggage compartment floor trim.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable- arrow -.
- Remove the oil filter. Refer to => [ Oil Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Separate the electrical connections on the transmission, rotate the connection counterclockwise - arrow -.
- Touch the vehicle ground with your hand (without gloves) to discharge static.
CAUTION!
• Always discharge static by touching a grounded object, e.g. vehicle ground, before touching or removing the mechatronic unit.
• Never touch contacts in the 16 pin connector, as the static charge could destroy the control module and thus the mechatronic unit.
- Remove the wiring harness connector securing clip - arrow - on the outside of the transmission housing.
- Remove the mechatronic bolts in the sequence shown - 11 through 1 -.
• Only bolts marked with - 1 to 11 - may be loosened.
• If other bolts are loosened, this may affect the function of the mechatronic unit or it may come apart.
- Remove the mechatronic unit together with the wiring harness from transmission, at the same time guiding out the connector for the wiring harness.
Installing
- Make sure that the seal - B - is properly installed and secured.
- Replace the wiring harness connector O-rings and lightly coat with Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).
- Clip the wiring harness - A - onto the mechatronic unit - B -. At the same time, insert the tab - arrow - on the backside of the wiring harness into the mechatronic unit.
• If the tab on the backside of the wiring harness breaks off, the wiring harness must be replaced. Refer to => [ Wiring Harness ] Service and Repair.
- Insert the wiring harness connector into the transmission housing.
• Installation position: The flat part of the rear collar faces downward; the tabs on the collar are horizontal.
- Set the mechatronic unit in place without using force, and at the same time insert the stud of the selector lever - arrow - into the groove of the selector slide - A -; if necessary, move the selector slide back or forth.
- Tighten the mechatronic unit bolts - 1 - and - 2 - to 2 Nm.
- Then tighten the bolts to 8 Nm in the sequence shown - 1 through 11 -.
- Connect the securing clamp - arrow - on the wiring harness connector.
- Install the oil filter. Refer to => [ Oil Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
