Fresh Air Blower
Removing
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove the air intake unit, refer to => [ Air Intake Unit ] Air Intake Unit.
- Remove the air intake unit upper cover, refer to => [ Air Intake Unit Upper Cover ] Air Intake Unit Upper Cover.
- Remove the Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J126), refer to => [ Fresh Air Blower Control Module ] Fresh Air Blower Control Module.
CAUTION!
The heat sink on the fresh air blower control module may be hot.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors - C -, - D - and - F - on the various components.
- Loosen the grommet - B - from the air intake unit housing and lay the wiring harness - A - aside.
- Carefully loosen the connecting element - B - from the motor - A -.
CAUTION!
The connecting rod - C - is engaged on the recirculation door lever - D -. This lever will break if it is bent over the connecting rod.
- Bring the connecting rod - C - and connecting element - B - into a position where they will not be bent when removing the Fresh Air Blower (V2).
- Remove the bolts - A - (quantity: 5).
CAUTION!
Do not hold the fresh air blower fan wheel. Putting pressure on the fan wheel or sliding the balancing weight on it can cause an imbalance and lead to problems during operation.
- Remove the fresh air blower - B - carefully. Be sure not to bend the connecting element - C -.
Installing
- Check the position of the mount - E - on the control motor shaft - A -. It must be in the position shown.
• Only install the connecting element - B - in the position shown where it engages without forcing it in. If the connecting element can only be installed with force, check if the mount - E - on the control motor shaft is turned 180°.
• If the mount - E - on the control motor shaft is not in the position shown, connect the control motor terminals 5 and 6 via a 5 A fuse to a 12V battery using an adapter cable => [ Adapter Cable for Activating Control Motors ] Adapter Cable For Activating Control Motors or line from the Connector test set (V.A.G 1594C).
• Let the control motor turn until the mount - E - is in the position shown and the connecting element can be installed without force. The direction of rotation can be reversed by switch the plus and minus.
• The control motor shaft does not have a stop. It rotates continuously when voltage is applied to terminals 5 and 6 on the control motor connector.
- Install the fresh air blower - B - carefully. Be sure not to bend the connecting elements - C -.
- Insert the connecting element - B - carefully into the mount - E - on the control motor shaft - A -.
CAUTION!
The connecting rod - C - is engaged on the recirculation door lever - D -. This lever will break if it is bent over the connecting rod.
- Check the connection between the connecting element - B - and the control motor shaft. The connecting element must be engaged.
• Make sure the connecting element is seated correctly. There must be no play between the control motor mount and the connecting element.
- Tighten the bolts - A - by hand (10 Ncm).
- Install the grommet - B - and wiring harness - A - according to the illustration.
- Connect the electrical connectors - C -, - D - and - F - on the various components.
- Install the fresh air blower control module, refer to => [ Fresh Air Blower Control Module ] Fresh Air Blower Control Module.
- Before installing the air intake unit upper cover, make sure the electrical connectors - A - and - B - are seated correctly and the electrical wires are routed correctly.
- Install the air intake unit, refer to => [ Air Intake Unit ] Air Intake Unit.
After finishing the repairs, perform the following work on the Climatronic Control Module (J255) using Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051/ in the "Guided Fault Finding" function:
- Check the DTC memory and erase any malfunctions shown.
- Perform the basic setting.
- Perform the output diagnostic test mode.
