Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
• The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor on the 3.6L engine is installed into a water jacket at rear of the cylinder head on the left side of the engine.
Removing
Hot, pressurized coolant can cause injury by scalding. Cooling system must be partially drained before removing the coolant temperature sensor.
• Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse.
- Drain the cooling system to a level below the engine coolant temperature sensor. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.
- Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the ECT sensor.
- Remove the ECT sensor.
Installing
- Apply Volkswagen thread sealant with to sensor threads.
- Install sensor (1) to cylinder head.
- Tighten sensor to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) torque.
- Connect electrical connector to sensor.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.
