Cooling System Draining and Filling

Cooling System Draining and Filling

Draining

Petcock Location

Do not remove or loosen the coolant pressure cap, cylinder block drain plugs, or the petcock when the system is hot and under pressure because serious burns from the coolant can occur.

- Make sure the system is not pressurized. Without removing radiator pressure cap , use a screwdriver to open the petcock. The petcock is located on the lower left side of radiator.

DO NOT WASTE reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse.

- After the coolant recovery/reserve container is empty, then remove coolant pressure cap.

- Remove the cylinder block drain plug(s).

Filling

Remove the radiator pressure cap and fill the system, use a 50/50 mixture of the appropriate coolant and distilled water.

Continue filling the cooling system until full. Do not spill the coolant on the drive belt or the generator. For cooling system capacity.

Fill the coolant recovery reservoir to at least the MAX mark. It may be necessary to add coolant to the reservoir after three or four warm up/cool down cycles in order to maintain the coolant level between the MAX and MIN mark. This will allow trapped air to be removed from the cooling system.
