Bevel Box Assembly Overview





1 Seal, Left

• Between the bevel box and transmission.

• Remove the bevel box to replace, refer to one of the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

• If there are leaks, also replace the small inner seal - item 2 -.

• Replacing, refer to => [ Bevel Box Seals ] Bevel Box Seals.

2 Seal, Left

• Between the bevel box and transmission.

• Remove the bevel box to replace, refer to one of the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

• If there are leaks, also replace the large outer seal - item 1 -.

• Replacing, refer to => [ Bevel Box Seals ] Bevel Box Seals.

3 Bevel Box

• Removing and installing, refer to one of the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

4 Oil Seal

• Right (drive axle side).

• The seal can be replaced with the bevel box installed.

• Replacing, refer to => [ Right Seal, Drive Axle Side ] Bevel Box Seals.

5 Securing Ring

• Always replace.

• Insert in the groove on the stub shaft.

6 O-ring

• Always replace.

• Insert in the groove on the stub shaft.

7 Stub Shaft

• Remove the bevel box to remove and install, refer to one of the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing ] Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing.

8 Needle Bearing (Polygon)

• Replacing, refer to => [ Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing ] Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing.

9 Securing Ring

• Always replace.

10 Nut

• 480 Nm

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Output Flange Seal, Bevel Box Removed ] Bevel Box Seals.

• Install using locking fluid (D 000 600).

11 Output Flange

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Output Flange Seal, Bevel Box Removed ] Bevel Box Seals.

12 Oil Seal

• Remove the bevel box to replace, refer to one of the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

• Replacing, refer to => [ Output Flange Seal, Bevel Box Removed ] Bevel Box Seals.

13 Bolt

• 25 Nm

• Tighten in a diagonal sequence.

14 Drive Pinion Housing

• With shaft bevel gear.

• The drive pinion housing only fits in one position.

• Installing: Place the drive pinion housing loosely on the bevel box, tighten all the bolts by hand and then counter turn and tighten the bolts on alternating sides.

15 O-ring

• To replace, remove the bolts - item 13 - and carefully pry the drive pinion housing out at the tabs protruding all the way around.

• Do not remove the nut - item 10 - and output flange - item 11 -.
