Stub Shaft Polygon Needle Bearing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Thrust Plate (VW 401)

• Thrust Plate (VW 402)

• Punch (VW 407)

• Thrust Disc (VW 412)

• Wheel Bearing Assembly Tool (3253)

• Assembly Tool (T10047)

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

• Thrust Ring (VW 470)

• Socket and Extended Bit (T10107 A)

• Thrust Piece (T40023)

• Kukko Separating Tool 12-75 mm (17/1)

Removing

- Remove the noise insulation under the engine/transmission.

- Remove the bevel box, refer to one of the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

- Remove the circlip - 1 - from the stub shaft.





- Carefully drive the stub shaft out - 2 - in the - direction of the arrow - using a plastic hammer.

- Arrange both halves of the (T10047) so that the marks "B" face each other.





- The sections - arrows - must then be located under the bearing.

- Now screw both halves together until they are seated.

- Pry out needle bearing circlip - A -.





- To prevent the running surface of the bearing on the shaft from being damaged, rotate the shaft while pressing - arrow -.

Installing

- Arrange both halves of the (T10047) so that the marks "B" face each other.





- To prevent the running surface of the bearing on the shaft from being damaged, rotate the shaft while pressing - arrow -.





- Secure the needle bearing with a new circlip.

- Carefully drive the stub shaft in until seated using a plastic hammer.

- Install a new circlip - 1 - on the stub shaft.





- Install the right drive axle.

- Install the drive axle heat shield.





- Install the bevel box, refer to one of the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

Tiguan, refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Bevel Box.

- Check the oil level in the bevel box. Refer to => [ Bevel Box Gear Oil, Checking and Filling ] 09M,09MA Transmission.

- Install the noise insulation.
