ISSUE:
1996-97 Continentals may be equipped with either a 1995 level or a 1996 level Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). Prior to beginning any ABS diagnostics, it is recommended that the ABS Electronic Hydraulic Control Unit (EHCU) be identified in order to determine which ABS the vehicle is equipped with.
ACTION:
The level of the ABS can be determined by referring to the following ABS Identification.
ABS IDENTIFICATION
1. By reading the engineering number on the EHCU.
^ Engineering numbers that begin with "F5OC-2C219-xx" are 1995 level systems
^ Engineering numbers that begin with "F6OC-2C219-xx" are 1996 level systems
2. The ABS type can also be identified through the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester by the following steps:
a. Access "Diagnostic Data Link".
b. Select "ABS", then press Trigger.
c. The system year of the installed module will now be displayed.
d. At this time if "Module Identification" is selected, the engineering number of the module will now be displayed.
Once the level of ABS has been identified, follow the appropriate year Continental Service/Workshop, Manual diagnostics for that system.
