Windshield Glass Using Cheese Wire (76.81.40)

Removal

1. Remove the interior mirror.
2. Remove the A pillar trims.

3. NOTE: Left-hand electrical connector shown, right-hand similar.

Disconnect heated windscreen electrical connector.







4. Remove the sun visors.
5. Remove the interior light unit.
6. Remove the A pillar exterior trim.







7. Remove the wiper arm nut covers.







8. Remove the wiper arm nuts.







9. Using special tool, detach the wiper arms.







10. Remove the wiper arms.







11. Remove the cowl grille.







12. Remove the lower A pillar drainage channel.







13. Apply protective tape around windshield glass aperture to protect paintwork.







14. Apply suitable protective tape around leading edge of headlining.







15. Prepare cheese wire and cutting handle.
- Position cutting handle central tube fully upwards in handle.
- Cut a suitable length of cheese wire and pass one end through handle tube and locating aperture.
- Move cutting handle central tube downwards to secure cheese wire.

16. Using a suitable long bladed tool, penetrate Betaseal approximately 150 mm from the top of one A pillar.







17. Remove tool, pass free end cheese wire through penetration and install second cutting handle.







18. Place a suitable protective sheet over fascia and place a protecting board over sheet.

19. CAUTION: When cutting, do not allow cheese wire to contact edge of windshield glass as this will crack the windshield glass.

With assistance and exercising care at corners to avoid damaging paintwork, cut around windshield glass commencing downwards and along the bottom.







20. Remove the windshield glass.
1. Attach lifting handles to windshield glass.
2. Remove the windshield glass.







21. Remove lifting handles from windshield glass.
22. Remove cheese wire cutter from windshield glass aperture, remove cutting handles and discard cheese wire.
23. Exercising care not damage paintwork, remove residual adhesive from body flange.







24. Remove protective cloth from fascia.
25. Remove protective tape from windshield glass aperture.

Installation

1. NOTE: If original windshield glass is to be installed remove the residual adhesive from windshield glass mating surface using suitable scraper.

Install the upper and lower windshield glass spacers to the aperture.
1. Install the alignment pegs to the upper aperture.
2. Install the seating pegs to the upper and lower aperture.







2. Thoroughly clean windshield glass surface using Betawipe spirit.







3. Apply primer to mating face of windshield glass.







4. Cut Betaseal nozzle to achieve a triangular section bead 8 mm wide by 10 mm high.







5. Using a suitable pneumatic application gun, apply a uniform bead of adhesive to the windshield glass edge commencing at bottom centre and overlapping the ends approximately 100 mm.







6. CAUTION: When installing the windshield glass, do not strike it in any way as this will crack the windshield glass.

Install lifting and with assistance, carefully position windshield glass in aperture aligning windshield glass and press firmly into place.







7. Remove the lifting handles.
8. Remove protective tape from leading edge of headlining.

9. NOTE: Left-hand electrical connector shown, right-hand similar.

Reconnect heated windscreen electrical connector.







10. Install the A pillar trims.
11. Install the interior mirror.
12. Install the lower A pillar drainage channel.







13. Install the cowl grille.







14. NOTE: Place a sheet of white paper on the inside of the vehicle behind the obscuration to identify the correct position for installing the wiper arms.

Install the wiper arms.







15. Install the wiper arm nuts.







16. Install the wiper arm nut covers.







17. Install the A pillar exterior trim.
