ACCELERATION FROM STOPPED POSITION -
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L CNG BI-FUEL
ENGINE ONLY

FORD:
2000 CONTOUR

ISSUE
Some CNG Bi-Fuel vehicles may exhibit a hesitation when accelerating from the stopped position while operating in the natural gas mode. This may be caused by an incorrect length MAP line assembly and require an updated Compuvalve CNG calibration.

ACTION
Replace Compuvalve and revise the length of the MAP line. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Replace Compuvalve with revised calibration Compuvalve YS2Z-9F954-ABMR as per Ford Workshop information for 2000 Bi-fuel Contour.

NOTE
PRIOR TO CONNECTING THE MAP ELBOW TO THE COMPUVALVE, CHECK THE LENGTH OF THE MAP LINE AND REVISE IF NECESSARY AS INDICATED IN STEP 2.

2. Inspect MAP line.
a. Remove air box from throttle body.

b. Remove MAP line assembly from throttle body as shown (Figure 1).
c. Carefully remove MAP line assembly from vehicle.
d. Measure Map line (should be approximately 28" in total length). If longer than 28", carefully disconnect MAP line from MAP tap and remove excess MAP line from end shown in Figure 1.
e. Connect MAP line to MAP tap.
f. Connect MAP line assembly to throttle body as shown in Figure 1.
g. Carefully route MAP line to Compuvalve.

NOTE
ROUTE MAP LINE IN FRONT OF SUB FRAME NEAR COMPUVALVE AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2.

NOTE
ENSURE THAT THE LINE ROUTING HAS SMOOTH BENDS AND THAT NO STRESS IS APPLIED TO THE 90 DEGREE MAP ELBOW WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE COMPUVALVE.

h. Tie wrap MAP line to power steering tube as shown in Figure 2.
i. Install air box to throttle body.

3. Continue with Compuvalve installation as per Ford Workshop information for 2000 Bi-fuel Contour.

4. Leak check all connections removed for Compuvalve replacement. Use a quality leak reactant or equivalent over Compuvalve pressure fittings and lines. Leaks from the system will exhibit soapy bubbles. A mild soap and water solution may be used as an alternative.

NOTE
VEHICLE MUST BE RUNNING TO LEAK CHECK COMPUVALVE FITTINGS.
