Servicing Continuous Memory Codes

NOTE: If continuous memory indicates a pass (11 or 111) and a symptom is present, go to SYMPTOM DIAGNOSTIC TABLES.

SERVICING CODES

To determine the continuous memory codes to be serviced refer to the continuous memory codes received in the key ON engine OFF self test. Some of the codes may have been addressed during the key ON engine OFF and RUNNING service. To address the remaining codes, refer to Quick Test Codes and Definitions/2 (or 3) Digit Continuous Memory Service Code Charts. If no codes remain, clear the continuous memory as outlined below.

CLEARING CODES

NOTE: DO NOT disconnect the battery to clear continuous memory codes, as this will erase the Keep Alive Memory (KAM) information and may cause a driveability problem.

1. Perform the key ON engine OFF self-test (Refer to KEY ON ENGINE OFF SELF TEST for quick test procedures).
2. When the service codes begin to be displayed, DEACTIVATE the self-test by following the scanner manufacturers instructions.
3. The continuous memory codes will be erased from the Engine Control Assembly's (ECA) memory.
