Inflatable Restraint Front End Sensor Replacement

Note: The front impact sensor may include/require a separate bolt and nut, refer to Electronic Parts Catalogue, for attachment if the front end module of the vehicle has been replaced with a service assembly. The torque for the bolt/nut combination remains the same as noted in the service procedure.

Removal Procedure

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.





Note: The radiator top mounts can be taken off and the radiator lent back to aid in removal.

2. Remove the left front impact sensor to front end module retaining bolt (1).




3. Remove the right front impact sensor to front end module retaining bolt (1).




4. Remove the front impact sensors (2) from the front end module (3).

5. Remove the front impact sensor electrical connections (1).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the front impact sensor electrical connections (1).

Note: Locating lugs will hold the NEW sensors in place.

2. Install the NEW front impact sensors (2) to the front end module (3).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the right front impact sensor to front end module retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).





Note: The radiator top mounts can be taken off and the radiator lent back to aid in installation.

4. Install the left front impact sensor to front end module retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

5. Enable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Service and Repair.
