Starter Motor: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove flywheel cover attaching bolts, then the cover.
4. Remove stud from starter motor bracket.
5. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, lower starter and disconnect starter wiring.
6. Remove starter motor, then the bracket from starter.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When removing starter, note if any shims are used between starter and mounting surface. If shims are found, reinstall in original location.
b. Torque starter motor attaching bolts to 32 ft. lbs.
c. Torque starter motor bracket stud to 18 ft. lbs.
