Neutral Start Switch - Revised Replacement Procedure

Subject: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 7A NEUTRAL START SWITCH REPLACEMENT
Model and Year: 1990 W CAR WITH 440-T-4 TRANSAXLE
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
The neutral start switch replacement procedure has been revised. Use the following procedure when removing or installing the neutral start switch on 1990 Lumina models. Please update page 7A-11 of your service manual.
Procedure:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Air cleaner assembly.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Cruise control servo retaining nuts, and position servo aside.
4. Set parking brake and place transaxle in "Neutral".
5. Harness bracket retaining bolt from top of transaxle.
6. Shift lever retaining nut from transaxle, position shift lever aside.
7. Neutral switch retaining bolts at transaxle.
8. Electrical connection from neutral switch, remove neutral switcth.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Electrical connection to neutral switch.
2. Neutral switch to transaxle.
- Align locator notches on neutral switch.
3. Neutral switch retaining bolts. Tighten
- Bolts to 24 N-m (18 ft.lbs.)
4. Shift lever to transaxle and nut. Tighten
- Nut to 20 N-m (15 ft.lbs.)
5. Cruise control servo to mounting studs. Tighten
- Nuts to 2 N-m (18 in.lbs.)
6. Negative battery cable.
7. Air cleaner assembly Inspect
- Neutral switch operation.
