Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

Fig. 4 Intake Manifold Tightening Sequence:

1. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove TBI cover, then drain engine coolant.
3. Disconnect vacuum lines and electrical connectors, as required.
4. Disconnect fuel lines, then the TBI linkage. Place shop towel over fuel line and fitting when disconnecting.
5. Remove TBI assembly.
6. Remove power steering pump and position aside.
7. On 1989 models, remove intake manifold coolant hose.
8. On all models, raise and support vehicle.
9. Remove accelerator and TV cables and bracket.
10. Remove lower intake manifold attaching bolts.
11. Lower vehicle, then remove intake manifold attaching nuts and bolts, then the intake manifold.
12. Reverse procedure to install. Refer to Fig. 4, for nut tightening sequence.
