Fluid Filter - A/T: Service and Repair
ATF Filter
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1410)
Removing
• General repair notes => [ Repair Instructions ] Repair Instructions.
• Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions => [ Transmission Cleanliness Guidelines ] Transmission Cleanliness Guidelines.
- Remove oil pan => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
- Carefully remove ATF strainer - A - from transmission.
Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
• The ATF filter only requires replacement when it is damaged.
If oil filter is replaced, observe the following:
- If present, carefully remove oil filter seal - A - from transmission, e.g. with a screwdriver.
• Do not damage sealing surface.
• The seal is shown with the Mechatronic removed to provide a better illustration.
• The new ATF strainer is supplied with the seal in place.
Continued for new and old ATF filter:
- Carefully press oil strainer intake tube - A - into opening in transmission as far as stop.
• A new oil strainer with attached seal is pressed into transmission.
- Install oil pan => [ Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.
- After installation, fill with ATF, check ATF level, and top off => [ Draining ATF and Filling After Repairs ] Draining ATF and Filling After Repairs.
