Catalytic Converter
Removing
- Remove the cross under pipe (4) from vehicle. Refer to => [ Exhaust Cross under Pipe ] Exhaust Cross under Pipe.
• The lower bolts for the converter flange are used to hold a guide retainer plate (4). The retainer does not need to be removed. The catalytic converter (3) is held in by the plate and upper bolts.
- Disconnect temperature and oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
- Remove catalytic converter (3) to exhaust manifold (1) upper bolts (2).
- Remove catalytic converter (3) by lifting and sliding the flange up and away from the exhaust manifold (1).
- Remove the temperature and oxygen sensors.
Installing
- If new gaskets need replacing, position new gasket onto the manifold flange and install the lower retainer plate (2). loosely install all four bolts to align the gasket. Tighten lower retainer bolts (2) to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
- Position the catalytic converter (3) against the exhaust manifold. Position the converter flange (2) to the retainer (1).
- Install the upper flange bolts. Tighten upper bolts to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
• Be careful not to twist or kink the oxygen sensor wires.
- Install (if removed), connect the temperature and oxygen sensors electrical connectors.
- Install the cross under pipe (1). Refer to => [ Exhaust Cross under Pipe ] Exhaust Cross under Pipe.
- Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks. Repair exhaust leaks as necessary.
- Check the exhaust system for contact with the body panels. Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
