Master Cylinder Bleeding

Master Cylinder Bleeding

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Bleeder Tubes (8358A)

When clamping master cylinder in vise, only clamp master cylinder by its mounting flange. Do not clamp master cylinder piston rod, reservoir, seal or body.

- Clamp master cylinder in a vise.

- Thread (8358A) into each master cylinder outlet port. Tighten each tube to 14 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Flex (8358A) and place open ends into mouth of fluid reservoir as far down as possible to keep them less than fluid level while bleeding.

Make sure open ends of (8358A) stay below surface of brake fluid once reservoir is filled to proper level.

- Fill brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid conforming to specifications. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Brake Fluid ] Hydraulic Brake Fluid.

Make sure fluid level is more than tips of (8358A) in reservoir to ensure no air is ingested during bleeding.

- Using a wooden dowel as a push rod (2), slowly depress master cylinder pistons, then release pressure, allowing pistons to return to released position. Repeat several times until all air bubbles are expelled. Make sure fluid level stays more than tips of (8358A) in reservoir while bleeding.

- Remove (8358A) from master cylinder outlet ports, then plug outlet ports and install fill cap on reservoir.

- Remove master cylinder from vise.

- Install master cylinder on vehicle. Refer to => [ Master Brake Cylinder ] Master Brake Cylinder.
