Front Air Distribution Housing
Front Air Distribution Housing
Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.
Review the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation.
The heater core tubes are not serviced separately from the heater core. The heater core tubes should not be repositioned, loosened or removed from the heater core. Failure to follow this warning may result in a coolant leak and possible serious or fatal injury.
Removing
- Remove the HVAC housing and place it on a workbench. Refer to => [ Front HVAC Housing ] Front HVAC Housing.
- Remove the A/C expansion valve. Refer to => [ Front A/C Expansion Valve ] Service and Repair.
• If the foam seal from the front of the HVAC housing is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
- Remove the foam seal (1) from the front of the HVAC housing (2).
- Remove the two screws (4) that secure the heater core cover (5) to the driver side of the air distribution housing (3).
- Rotate and tilt the heater core cover as necessary to disengage the retaining tab that secures the front of the cover to the HVAC housing and remove the cover.
• If the foam seal around the heater core is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
- Carefully pull the heater core (1) out of the driver side of the air distribution housing (2).
- Disconnect the HVAC wire harness (4) from the mode and blend door actuators (3).
- Remove the three screws (1) that secure the top of the air distribution housing (2) to the rear of the HVAC housing (5).
• If the foam seal on top of the air distribution housing is deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
- Tilt the top of the air distribution housing rearward and disengage the two retaining tabs that secure the bottom of the air distribution housing to the HVAC housing and remove the air distribution housing.
- If required, remove the mode and blend door actuators from the air distribution housing.
Installing
• If the foam seal on top of the air distribution housing is deformed or damaged, the seal must be replaced.
- If required, install the mode and blend door actuators (3) onto the air distribution housing (2). Tighten the actuator retaining screws to 1.2 Nm (10 in lbs).
- Position the air distribution housing to the rear of the HVAC housing (5) and engage the two retaining tabs that secure the bottom of the air distribution housing to the HVAC housing.
- Tilt the top of the air distribution housing upward and install the three screws (1) that secure the air distribution housing to the HVAC housing. Tighten the screws to 1.2 Nm (10 in. lbs).
- Connect the HVAC wire harness (4) to the mode and blend door actuators.
• If the foam seal around the heater core are deformed or damaged, it must be replaced.
- Carefully install the heater core (1) into the driver side of the air distribution housing (2).
