Thermostat

Removing






- Drain the cooling system to a level below the thermostat. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.

- Remove the radiator upper hose from coolant outlet (1).

- Remove the coolant outlet bolts (2) and outlet (1).

- Remove the thermostat (3) from the outlet.

- Remove and discard the gasket (4) and clean both gasket sealing surfaces.

Installing






- To ensure proper seating of the thermostat, carefully remove the bulged metal (1) from the wall of the coolant outlet (2) recess that was created during the staking procedure that held the OEM thermostat in place. It is not necessary to restake the replacement thermostat into the outlet.






- Position the thermostat (3) to coolant outlet (3). Align the two locating notches (1) on the thermostat to the outlet. This position will ensure proper location of the thermostat air bleed.






- Position a new gasket (4) to the coolant outlet.

- Ensure that the thermostat (3) is in proper position and in the recess provided.

- Install the coolant outlet (1), with thermostat (3) and outlet bolts (2) to the intake manifold. Tighten the bolts to 12 Nm (105 in lbs).

- Install the radiator upper hose to coolant outlet (1).

- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.
