Valve Body
Valve Body
CAUTION!
Do not run the engine with the oil pan removed or without Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and do not tow the vehicle.
• The valve body or wiring harnesses can also be removed with the transmission installed.
• Install seals lubricated with ATF. Other lubricating substances lead to functional problems in the hydraulic transmission control.
• Always replace a contaminated or faulty valve body.
• Do not use fluffy cloths!
• After installing the oil pan, the ATF level must be checked and topped off if necessary. Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling ] Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling.
Removing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Digital Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1756)
- Remove the oil filter. Refer to => [ Oil Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Disconnect the connector from the solenoid valves - item 1 - through - item 8 -, in => [ Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body ] Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
To unlock the connector housing on the solenoid valves, use a flat head screwdriver with a 2.5 mm shaft diameter.
CAUTION!
If a harness connector is damaged, the wiring harness or valve body with solenoid valves must be replaced.
- Disconnect the connectors - items A and B - in => [ Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body ] Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Remove the bracket for the connectors - items 1 and 2 - in => [ Bracket for Connectors,
Securing the Wires ] Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Disconnect the transmission fluid temperature sensor (G93) connector and carefully remove it from the valve body.
- Remove the shift lever - 1 - from the selector shaft.
- Carefully hold the shift lever - 1 - in place using pliers - 2 - so that torque is not transferred to the multifunction transmission range switch (F125).
- Make sure the valve - 3 - on the valve body in which the shift lever engages is not damaged.
The valve is very sensitive. Even minor damage leads to a malfunction.
- Always slide the valve into the valve body, secure it against falling out and never exchange it.
- Loosen the valve body bolts - arrows - (quantity 12).
When loosening other bolts, the function of the valve body will be influenced or the valve body splits up.
- Remove the brackets - 1 and 2 -.
- Disconnect the valve body and remove.
- When removing the valve body, pay attention to the damper piston - 2 -.
- Remove the piston with the spring.
Installing
To make sure that the wires do not get pinched during installation:
- Route and attached the wires - 1, 3, 4 and 5 - as shown in the illustration.
Distance - a - must be observed so that the wiring harness - 5 - does not make contact with the planetary gear and then would be damaged while driving.
The valve body is secured with bolts of three different lengths.
- Sort the bolts according to length before installing the valve body.
- Lubricate the damper piston - 2 - with ATF and install the spring.
- Insert the valve body carefully and secure it using 2 bolts.
Valve Body Bolt Lengths and Locations
- Make sure the wires are not pinched.
- Install the remaining bolts and the brackets - 1 and 2 - and counter turn by hand.
- Install the transmission fluid temperature sensor and tighten. Tightening specification, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications - Gears, Hydraulic Controls.
- Connect the connectors (quantity 8) to the solenoid valves. Refer to => [ Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body ] Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Connect the bracket for the connectors. Refer to => [ Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body ] Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body. Tightening specification, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications - Gears, Hydraulic Controls.
- Connect the connectors - items A and B - in => [ Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body ] Wire Routing, Connectors and Bracket on Valve Body.
- Install the valve body bolts from the inside toward the outside diagonally. Tightening specification, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications - Gears, Hydraulic Controls.
- Install the shift lever.
- Tighten the nut for the selector lever - 1 -. Tightening specification, refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Fastener Tightening Specifications - Gears, Hydraulic Controls.
- Carefully hold the shift lever - 1 - in place using pliers - 2 - so that the torque is not transferred to the Multifunction transmission range switch.
- Install the oil filter. Refer to => [ Oil Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Add the ATF, check the ATF level and top off if necessary. Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling ] Automatic Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling.
- Connect the (VAS 5051) and advance the program until "Function/component selection" is displayed.
