Shift Cable: Adjustments
Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Selector lever cable must be adjusted if:
• Selector lever cable was removed from transmission.
• Engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
• Cable or shift mechanism were removed and installed.
• Engine/transmission positions were changed, e.g. installed free of tension.
Adjusting:
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Loosen bolt - 2 - of cable - 1 -.
- Lightly tap button of knob forward and backward and make sure to keep knob in position "P".
Thus, optimal position of inner cable is found.
- Shift lever/shift rod - 3 - at transmission in position " P" (push lever backward).
• To make sure that the transmission is located in "P" (parking lock engaged), lift the vehicle. Both front wheels must not be able to be turned together in one direction.
- Tighten bolt - 2 - to 15 Nm.
