Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose clamp pliers (VAS 6340)

Removing

- Drain the cooling system. Refer to --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Procedures.

- Remove the rear engine cover in - direction of arrows - if applicable.





- Remove the front engine cover in - direction of arrows - if applicable.





- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 - at Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor 2 (G246).

- Remove left air guide hose - 1 - from air duct.

- Release retaining clips - 3 - and remove left upper air filter housing.





- Remove connector on MAF sensor (G70) - 1 -.

- Release tension from spring clips - 2 - and remove right air guide hose - 3 -.





- Disconnect vacuum hose - 2 - to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve (N80) by pressing release button.





- Free up vacuum hose.

Ignore - item 1 - and - item 3 -.

- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 2 - from EVAP canister purge regulator valve (N80).





- Remove EVAP canister purge regulator valve (N80) - item 1 - from bracket and lay aside.

- Remove air guide pipe. Refer to --> [ Air Guide Pipe ] Service and Repair.

- Loosen hose clamp - 1 - and remove bolts - 3 -.

- Remove crankcase ventilation hose - 2 -.





- Remove bolts - 3 through 5 - and remove crankcase ventilation pressure regulator valve.

- Remove oil runoff hose - 1 -.

To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.

Bolts - 3 - and - 4 - are only on vehicles with an aluminum intake manifold.

- Remove crankcase ventilation hoses - 1 - and - 3 - together with coolant line - 2 -.





To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.

- Remove vacuum hose - arrow - from intake manifold.





- Disconnect electrical connection - 1 - at throttle valve control module (J338).





- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove throttle valve control module (J338).

To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.

- Remove electrical connectors - 1 - and - 4 - from brackets and disconnect them.





- Remove nuts - 2 - and - 3 -.

- Remove engine wiring harness bracket from coolant pipe and set it to the rear.

To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.

- Extract hydraulic oil for power steering from reservoir using old oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782).





Place a cloth under separating point to catch leaking hydraulic fluid.

- Remove hose from power steering fluid reservoir - arrow -.

Place a cloth under separating point to catch leaking hydraulic fluid.





- Remove bolts - 1 - and nut - 2 - and remove power steering supply pipe.

- Remove bolt - 1 - and remove oil dipstick guide tube upward and out - arrow -.





- Remove coolant hose - arrows -.





- Disconnect electrical harness connector - arrow - at Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor 4 (G301).





- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.





- Remove left coolant pipe from coolant hoses - arrows -.

Installing

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Replace O-rings.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model.

- Replace O-ring at guide tube for oil dipstick and insert guide tube into hole in upper oil pan.

- Fill hydraulic oil in power steering reservoir and bleed system.

- Fill cooling system. Refer to --> [ Filling ] Procedures.
