Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

Front Exhaust Pipe

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Disconnect the connector - A -.





- Pull the wiring harness out of the brackets on the bulkhead.

- Remove noise insulation

- Open the clamp - A -. To do this loosen the bolt - arrow -.





• Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10 degrees, otherwise it may be damaged.

- Remove the catalytic converter on the bracket - arrows -.





- Remove the right drive axle from the transmission.

- Unscrew bracket for the exhaust pipe- arrows -.





- Loosen bolts of clamp - 1 -.





- Remove the front crossmember - arrows -.

- Push the clamp to the back and remove the exhaust pipe.

- Rotate the front exhaust pipe approximately 90 degrees to the right. Guide it downward between the subframe, heat shield and the coolant hoses.

Installing

Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

- Replace the seal and the clamp.

- Align exhaust system free of tension => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.
