Input Gear

- Tighten socket-head fastener to 100 Nm (74 ft lb) without dished washer and without shim.
- A - Torque wrench
- B - 22 mm socket
- The parking lock must be engaged.
- Remove socket-head fastener.





- Measure distance between input gear and tapered roller bearing inner race.
- Insert dial indicator and zero with a 3.0 mm (0.1181 inch) preload.
Record reading:

Example: 1.00 mm (0.0393 inch)

- The thickness of the dished washer, 1.50 mm (0.0590 inch), must be added to the reading: 1.00 mm (0.0393 inch) + 1.50 mm (0.0590 inch) = 2.50 mm (0.0984 inch).

Determining Shim Thickness
- The specified bearing preload is achieved when the bearing preload of 0.18 mm (0.0070 inch) is subtracted from the measured value - (dished washer + reading) of 2.50 mm (0.9842 inch).

Example:

Dished washer + reading 2.50 mm (0.0984 inch)
Minus
Bearing preload 0.18 mm (0.0070 inch) _______________________________________________________
Equals
Thickness of shim required 2.32 mm (0.0913 inch)

- Determine size of shim from table and install onto drive shaft. Table of shims refer to page 39-54.
- Insert axial needle bearing and tighten socket-head fastener including dished washer to 250 Nm (184 ft lb).

NOTE: Insert axial needle bearing for input shaft before tightening socket head fastener. Installation position refer to Differential Input Gear. Service and Repair

Checking Friction Torque





- A - Torque wrench, commercially available 0-600 Ncm (0-53 inch lb)
- B - Wrench socket (41mm AF)

- The friction torque of new tapered roller bearings must be 180-220 Nm (16-20 inch lb) greater than friction torque at the drive pinion.

Example:

Drive pinion (from measurement)
100 Ncm (9 inch lb) [note 1]

Friction torque of input gear
+ drive pinion 300 Ncm (27 inch lb)

[note 1] Insert the friction torque measured for the drive pinion if used bearings are reinstalled.
