P0443

2GR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0443: Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit
P0443 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit

DESCRIPTION

HINT
This DTC P0443 is applicable to Mexico models only.

To reduce HC emissions, evaporated fuel from the fuel tank is routed through the charcoal canister to the intake manifold for combustion in the cylinders.

The ECM changes the duty signal to the VSV for EVAP so that the intake quantity of HC emissions is appropriate for the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc.) after the engine is warmed up.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
Read freeze frame data using the the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction Freeze Frame Data.

PROCEDURE

1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Disconnect the vacuum hose from the VSV for EVAP.

(b) Connect the the Techstream to the DLC3.

(c) Start the engine and turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control. Press the right or left button.

(e) Check if air is sucked into the port when operating the VSV for EVAP using the in TECHSTREAM.

Standard:

Result:

(f) Reconnect the vacuum hose.

B -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS Check for Intermittent Problems

A -- Continue to next step.

2. INSPECT PURGE VSV

(a) Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

(b) Measure the resistance between the terminals of the purge VSV.

Standard resistance:

(c) Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

NG -- REPLACE VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (PURGE VSV)
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. INSPECT PURGE VSV (POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE)

(a) Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Measure the voltage between the terminal of the wire harness side connector and body ground.

Standard voltage:

(d) Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - ENGINE RELAY BLOCK)
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - PURGE VSV)

(a) Disconnect the purge VSV connector.

(b) Disconnect the ECM connector.

(c) Measure the resistance between the terminals.

Standard resistance (Check for open):

Standard resistance (Check for short):

(d) Reconnect the ECM connector.

(e) Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - PURGE VSV)

OK -- REPLACE ECM Removal
