Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION1. Disconnect the high tension coil wire from the distributor cap.
2. Connect the end to an adjustable gap spark tester that is clipped to a good ground. If a tester is not available, hold the wire end approx. 12.5 mm (0.50 in.) from the body ground with insulated pliers.
3. See if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.
^ If the spark does not occur, go to "Ignition System Test".
HINT: To prevent gasoline from being injected from injectors during this test, crank the engine for no more than 1 - 2 seconds at time.
