Downhill Assist Control Indicator Light Remains ON

DESCRIPTION

When the Downhill Assist Control switch is pushed on, the downhill assist control function is available and the downhill assist control indicator light illuminates.

HINT: Even if the downhill assist control switch is pressed, the downhill assist control indicator light blinks and downhill assist control does not activate under the following conditions:

- Transfer is in 2WD or H4 mode.
- ABS system is malfunctioning.
- Temperature of the hydraulic brake booster increases and downhill assist control is temporarily canceled.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR
(a) Check the ECU connecting condition.
OK:
The connector is securely connected.
NG -- CONNECT CONNECTOR CORRECTLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT BATTERY
(a) Check the battery voltage.
Standard:
11 to 14 V
NG -- INSPECT CHARGING SYSTEM
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER)





(a) Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
(b) Disconnect the combination meter connector.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard:





(d) Reconnect the combination meter connector.
(e) Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
(a) Check the combination meter system (Problem Symptoms Table).
OK:
Combination meter is normal.
NG -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (HDCS TERMINAL)





(a) Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
(b) Ground terminal HDCS of the skid control ECU.
Standard:





(c) Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.
OK -- REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID
NG -- Continue to next step.
6. INSPECT DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH





(a) Remove the downhill assist control switch.
(b) Disconnect the downhill assist control switch connector.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard:





(d) Reconnect the downhill assist control switch connector.
(e) Reinstall the downhill assist control switch connector.
NG -- REPLACE DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - DOWNHILL ASSIST CONTROL SWITCH)





(a) Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
(b) Disconnect the downhill assist control switch connector.
(c) Measure the resistance.
Standard:





(d) Reconnect the downhill assist control switch connector.
(e) Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID
