SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: SPIRAL CABLE: INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION
1. PRECAUTION
CAUTION: Read "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing Service Precautions.
2. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE
(a) Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
(b) Set the turn signal switch in the neutral position.
NOTE: If it is not in the neutral position, the pin of the turn signal switch may snap.
(c) Install the spiral cable with the 4 screws.
NOTE: When replacing the spiral cable with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel assembly.
(d) Connect the connectors to the spiral cable.
NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
3. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Installation
4. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER Installation
5. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE
(a) Check that the ignition switch is turned to OFF.
(b) Check that the negative (-) battery terminal is disconnected.
CAUTION: After removing the terminal, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.
(c) Rotate the spiral cable counterclockwise slowly by hand until it feels firm.
NOTE: Do not turn the spiral cable with the airbag wire harness or connector.
(d) Rotate the spiral cable clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.
NOTE: Do not turn the spiral cable with the airbag wire harness or connector.
HINT: The spiral cable will rotate approximately 2.5 turns both ways from the center.
6. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Installation
7. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
8. INSTALL STEERING PAD Installation
9. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2 Installation
10. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3 Installation
11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Torque: 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf)
12. INSPECT STEERING PAD Installation
13. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
(a) Perform initialization Repair Instruction - Initialization.
HINT: Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.
14. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
(a) Inspect the SRS warning light Diagnosis System.
