DTC P050A / P050B: Cold Start Idle Air Control System Performance / Cold Start Ignition Timing Performance

System Description
The ECM retards the ignition timing and increases the idle speed to quickly increase the catalyst temperature at cold start to reduce emissions. The ECM monitors the ignition timing and the idle speed for cold start. If the idle speed or the ignition timing is out of specification, the ECM will set DTC.

DTC Confirmation Procedure

NOTE: Check to make sure that the following conditions are satisfied when using this "DTC Confirmation Procedure".
- Engine coolant temperature: between -10 °C and 50 °C (14 °F and 122 °F).
- Atmospheric pressure (when DTC P050A is detected): higher than 75 kPa (560 mmHg) (Altitude: lower than 2790 m (9150 ft)).
- The following DTCs are not detected: IAT sensor, barometric pressure sensor, VSS, MAF sensor, EVAP canister purge valve (when DTC P050A is detected), CMP sensor, CKP sensor, EGR system, PCV and TP sensor.

1. With ignition switch turned OFF, connect scan tool.
2. Turn ignition switch to ON position and clear DTC by using scan tool if any.
3. Start engine and keep engine at idle speed for 30 sec.
4. Check DTC and pending DTC by using scan tool.
