Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Adjustments

Checking Parallel Of Sprockets

Deviation in parallel between the driving sprocket on the intermediate shaft and driven sprocket on the camshaft must not exceed ± 0.25 mm. Before measuring move intermediate shaft and camshafts in axial direction toward flywheel to position guiding collar of bearings.

Sprockets are adjusted by adding or removing shims, Part No.901.105.561.00. Shim thickness: 0.5 mm.

Normally 3 shims will be required underneath the left sprocket (cyl. 1 - 3) and 4 shims underneath the right sprocket (cyl. 4 - 6).

Adjusting

1. Measure distance "A" from front edge of crankcase or lineal to face of intermediate shaft.

Design distance of drive gears on intermediate shaft:

From face of intermediate shaft:
to face of rear intermediate shaft sprocket (cyl. 1 - 3) = 98.07 mm
to face of front intermediate shaft sprocket (cyl. 4 - 6) = 43.27 mm

Design distance + measured distance "A" produces position of sprockets on camshafts (max. permissible deviation = ± 0.25 mm).

Example: Measured distance "A" = 35.5 mm

Consequently for cyl. 1 - 3 sprocket: A + 98.07 = 35.5 + 98.07 = 133.57 ± 0.25 mm

For cyl. 4 - 6 sprocket: A + 43.27 = 35.5 + 43.27 = 78.77 ± 0.25 mm

Adjust timing gear after the required shims have been determined. Adjustments
