Inspection Procedure 9: Groaning, clicking or rattling Noise when brakes are not appliedDIAGNOSIS
STEP 1. Check whether foreign material has entered the wheel covers.
If found, remove it. Then go to Step 5.
If not found, go to Step 2.
STEP 2. Check for looseness of the lug nuts.
If loose, tighten to 88-108 Nm (66-81 ft. lbs.). Then go to Step 5.
If normal, go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check for looseness of the caliper installation bolt. If loose, tighten to 90-110 Nm (66-81 ft. lbs.) for the front caliper, or 55-65 Nm (41-48 ft. lbs.) for the rear caliper. Then go to Step 5.
If normal, go to Step 4.
STEP 4. Check the wheel bearings for wear, damage or dryness.
If faulty, apply grease or replace the part. Then go to Step 5.
STEP 5.
Check symptom. If the symptom is eliminated, diagnosis is complete. If the symptom is not eliminated, start over at Step 1.
