Inspection Procedure 6
CIRCUIT OPERATION
- The SECURITY indicator; which is energized by the battery, sends a signal to the ETACS-ECU.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
- The ETACS-ECU illuminates the SECURITY indicator when the theft-alarm system is armed.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- Malfunction of the SECURITY indicator
- Damaged harness wires and connectors
- Blown bulb of the SECURITY indicator
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tool:
MB991223: Harness Set
STEP 1. Check power supply to the SECURITY indicator (incorporated in the combination meter).
1. Remove the combination meter
2. Disconnect the wiring connector and measure voltage between terminal number 1 and ground.
- Voltage should be approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage) - If approximately 12 volts, go to Step 7.
If not approximately 12 volts, go to Step 2.
STEP 2. Check combination meter connector C-30 for damage.
If harness connector C-30 is damaged, repair or replace it. Refer to Harness Connection Inspection.
If harness connector C-30 is in good condition, go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check the harness wires between combination meter connector C-30 and battery.
If the harness wires between combination meter connector C-30 and battery are damaged, repair them, Check that the malfunction is eliminated.
If the harness wires are in good condition, go to Step 4.
NOTE: After inspecting intermediate connectors C-57 C-66 and junction block connectors C- 78, C-84, inspect the wire. If intermediate connectors C-57 , C-66 and junction block connectors C-78, C-84 are damaged, repair or replace them. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection.
STEP 4. Check the SECURITY indicator circuit of ETACS-ECU C-81.
1. Remove the ETACS-ECU
2. Disconnect wiring connector C-81 and measure voltage between harness side terminal number 39 and ground.
- Voltage should be approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage).
If approximately 12 volts, go to Step 7.
If not approximately 12 volts, go to Step 5.
STEP 5. Check the harness wires between combination meter connector C-30 and ETACS-ECU connector C-81.
If the harness wires between the combination meter and the ETACS-ECU connector are damaged, repair them. Check that the malfunction is eliminated.
If the harness wires are in good condition, go to Step 6.
STEP 6. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-86 for damage.
If harness connector C-86 is damaged, repair or replace it. Refer to Harness Connection Inspection.
If harness connector C-86 is in good condition, go to Step 7.
STEP 7. Check the harness wires between ETACS-ECU connector C-86 and body ground.
If the harness wires between ETACS-ECU connector C-86 and body ground are damaged, repair them. Check that the malfunction is eliminated.
If the harness wires are in good condition, go to Step 8.
STEP 8. Check symptoms.
Confirm that the SECURITY indicator is illuminated when the theft-alarm system is armed.
