DTC 17
Throttle Position Sensor Circuit:
Connectors:
CIRCUIT OPERATION
The throttle position sensor signal is sent to the ECU through this circuit.
The auto-cruise control-ECU receives a signal from the throttle position sensor at terminal 3. The signal is OFF when the accelerator pedal is depressed, and ON when the accelerator pedal is released. The throttle position sensor sends a voltage to terminal 1 of the auto-cruise control-ECU. The voltage depends on throttle opening angle.
DTC SET CONDITIONS
If 2.5 volts or more or 0.2 voltages or less is output for four seconds or more.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- Malfunction of the throttle position sensor.
- Damaged connector or harness.
- Malfunction of the auto-cruise control-ECU.
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tool:
MB991502: Scan Tool (MUT-II)
STEP 1. Check the throttle position sensor.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991502, always turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991502.
1. Using scan tool MB991502.
2. Connect scan tool MB991502 to the data link connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
4. Is diagnostic trouble code at the throttle position circuit malfunction output from the engine control module?
For 2.4L, if yes, refer to Computers/Testing.
For 3.0L, if yes, refer to Computers/Testing.
If no, go to Step 2.
STEP 2. Check harness connectors B-05 at the throttle position sensor and C-52 at the auto-cruise control-ECU.
If harness connectors B-05 and C-35 are damaged, repair or replace them. Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Then check that diagnostic trouble code 17 is not output.
If harness connectors B-05 and C-52 are in good condition, go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Check the harness wires between the throttle position sensor connector B-05 and the cruise control-ECU connector C-52.
If any harness wires between the throttle position sensor connector B-05 and the cruise control-ECU connector C-52 are damaged, repair or replace them. Check that diagnostic trouble code 17 is not output.
If the harness wires are in good condition, replace the auto-cruise control-ECU. Check that diagnostic trouble code 17 is not output.
NOTE: If intermediate connector C-17 is damaged, repair or replace IL Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Then check that a diagnostic trouble code is not output.
