Oil Pan Removal/Installation




OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L

Removal

CAUTION:During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material (including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces) that enters the oil passages or the oil pan may cause engine failure.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.

2. Remove the flexible exhaust pipe. See - Service and Repair.

3. Drain the engine oil and install the drain plug.

- Tighten to 26 Nm {2.6 kgf-m, 19 ft-lbf}.

4. Remove and discard the oil filter.





5. Remove the access cover.

6. Remove the 2 oil pan-to-transaxle bolts.

7. Remove the 15 bolts and the oil pan.

- Remove and discard the oil pan gasket.

Installation

1. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the oil pan gasket.

- Clean all sealing surfaces on the engine and the oil pan with metal surface prep and install a new oil pan gasket.

CAUTION:Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.






2. Apply a 10 mm (0.40 in) diameter dot of silicone sealer to the areas indicated.

NOTE:The oil pan must be installed and the bolts tightened within 4 minutes of sealant application.
3. Position the oil pan and loosely install the bolts and stud bolts.

4. Install the 2 oil pan-to-transaxle bolts.

- Tighten to 40 Nm {4.1 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf}.





5. Tighten the oil pan-to-engine bolts and stud bolts in the sequence shown to 25 Nm {2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lbf}.

6. Install the access cover.

7. Install a new oil filter.

- Tighten to 5 Nm {5.5 kgf-m, 44 in-lbf} and then rotate an additional 180 degrees.

NOTE:Lubricate the engine oil filter gasket with clean engine oil prior to installing.
8. Install the flexible exhaust pipe. See - Service and Repair.

9. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
