Front Halfshaft LH
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.
- TAS removal and installation procedures use a sequence of color illustrations to indicate the order to be followed when removing/disassembling or installing/assembling a component.
- Many of the TAS procedures will have the installation information within the removal steps.
- The TAS color illustrations use a variety of symbols to indicate important details of the procedures. It is important to understand these symbols in order to properly used the TAS procedures.

Removal
NOTE:
The seal protector is not a special tool but is available from the parts catalogue.
1 Remove the plenum chamber panel.

2 Release the hood support struts and secure the hood in an upright position.
WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
3 Raise and support the vehicle.
4 Remove the wheel and tire.

WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed.
Torque to: 60 Nm
NOTE:
This step requires the aid of another technician.
5 Compress the spring and damper assembly.
Special Service Tool
G-Clamp, 204-619
WARNING: Make sure that a new bolt is installed.
Step 1: 45 Nm
Step 2: 60 degree
6 Partially release the halfshaft from the wheel knuckle.
Special Service Tool
Remover, Halfshaft, 205-857
CAUTION: Do not allow halfshafts to hang unsupported at one end or joint damage will occur.
7 Partially release the halfshaft from the wheel knuckle.
WARNING: Make sure that a new lower arm ball joint nut is installed.
CAUTION: Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.
Torque to: 100 Nm
Special Service Tool
Splitter, Ball Joints, 205-754A
CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
8 Remove the halfshaft from the wheel knuckle.
WARNING: Manual transmission: Fluid loss is unavoidable, use absorbent cloth or a container to collect the fluid.
Installation
NOTE:
Do not fully engage the halfshaft until the oil seal protector has been removed.
1 To prevent oil seal damage use the protector when installing the shaft into the transmission. It is not a special tool but is available from the Parts Catalogue.
CAUTION: Install the halfshaft nut finger tight.
CAUTION: Do not use air tools to install the nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
2 To install, reverse the removal procedure.
3 Manual transmission vehicles only: Check and top-up the transmission fluid level.
