Key Reminder Switch: Testing and Inspection

Ignition Key-In Switch

WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN AIRBAG, REFER TO RESTRAINT SYSTEMS BEFORE ATTEMPTING STEERING WHEEL OR STEERING COLUMN COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.


Key-In Switch Connector:






1. Remove the steering column shrouds as shown in ignition switch removal. Service and Repair
Unplug the ignition key-in switch connector from the ignition switch as shown.
2. Open the driver's door.
Check for continuity between the key-in ignition switch sense circuit cavity of the key-in switch connector and a good ground. There should be continuity.
If OK, go to Step 3.
If not OK, repair the open circuit to the driver's door jamb switch as required.
3. Insert the ignition key in the ignition lock cylinder.
Check for continuity between the key-in switch sense circuit and the courtesy lamp switch output circuit terminals of the key-in switch. There should be continuity until the key is removed.
If OK, go to step 4.
If not OK, replace the faulty ignition switch.
4. Check for continuity between the courtesy lamp switch output circuit cavities of the key-in switch connector and the buzzer module connector. There should be continuity.
If OK, test complete.
If not OK, repair the open circuit to the buzzer module as required.
