Master Cylinder Replacement

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution (Brake Fluid Irritant Caution) .

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice (Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice) .

1. Using the proper tool, remove the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
2. Remove fluid lever sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the brake lines from the ABS module to the master cylinder.

Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.


4. Install the rubber cap and or plugs the brake lines.
5. Remove the mounting bolts from the master cylinder.
6. Remove the master cylinder.

Installation Procedure

1. Bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding (Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding) .
2. Install the master cylinder on the mounting studs.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

3. Install the mounting nuts.

Tighten the mounting nuts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

4. Install the fluid lever sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the rubber caps and or plugs from the brake lines.
6. Install the brake lines from the ABS module to the master cylinder.

Tighten the brake line fittings to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

7. Fill the reservoir with fluid. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling (Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling) .
8. Check the operation of the brake system. Bleed the brakes if necessary. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual))Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure)) .
