Traction Off Indicator Inoperative

Traction Off Indicator Inoperative

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit Description

The Traction Off indicator is controlled by the instrument cluster via serial data messages from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). When the traction control system (TCS) is disabled, the EBCM commands the instrument cluster to turn ON the Traction Off indicator.

The Traction Off indicator will also turn ON during the instrument cluster bulb check. When the ignition switch is turned to ON, the Traction Off indicator will turn ON for approximately 3 seconds and then turn OFF.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the TCS accessory switch.
2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal H and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal J and ground. Verify the scan tool EBCM TCS switch parameter is On.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the TCS switch.

4. Reconnect the harness connector, Ignition ON, verify the scan tool EBCM TCS Data parameter, operate the switch On/Off.

If not the specified value, replace the TCS switch.

5. If all the circuits test normal, test or replace the BCM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
