C1288

EBCM/Brake Indicator Control Schematic:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) identifies a short to battery between the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and the red BRAKE warning lamp, or an open EBCM driver that does not allow the red BRAKE warning lamp to be illuminated by the EBCM.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
This DTC will set when the following conditions are met:
^ This DTC can be set only when the EBCM turns on the red BRAKE warning lamp.
^ The EBCM detects battery voltage on the red BRAKE warning lamp control circuit (CKT AF01 and/or 2Y02).

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
A malfunction DTC is stored and ABS is not disabled. However, if the EBCM commands the red BRAKE warning lamp ON due to an ABS malfunction that may degrade base braking operation and cannot do so, the ABS indicator lamp will flash to indicate the serious nature of the problem.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ Conditions for the malfunction are no longer present and the Tech 2 scan tool Clear DTC Information function is used.
^ One hundred drive cycles have passed with no malfunctions detected.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The following list contains items that need to be inspected when diagnosing this system:
^ Short to ground in CKT AF01 and/or 2Y02.
^ Faulty diode # 2.

NOTE: The frequency of the malfunction can be checked by using the Enhanced Diagnostic function of the Tech 2 scan tool, as described in Enhanced Diagnostics.

Any Circuitry That Is Suspected - of causing the intermittent complaint should be thoroughly checked for improper mating, improperly formed or damaged terminals, or physical damage to the wiring harness.

DTC C1288 Red BRAKE Warning Indicator Circuit Shorted To Voltage:

TEST DESCRIPTION
The numbers below refer to step numbers on the diagnostic table.
[2] Identifies if CKT AF01 and/or 2Y02 is being grounded by a source other than the EBCM.
[3] Identifies if the malfunction is currently present.
[4] By removing the TURN BACK fuse, the voltage source is eliminated in CKT AF01. This test indicates if voltage is being supplied from a source other than the TURN BACK fuse.
[5] If DTC C1286 is set, then the EBCM is turning ON the red BRAKE warning indicator due to another DTC that needs to be diagnosed first.
