Pinpoint Test AA: DTC U0137:00

Normal Operation

- DTC U0137:00 (Lost Communication With Trailer Brake Control Module: No Sub Type Information)- a continuous memory DTC set by the ABS module if the trailer brake data that should be received from the Trailer Brake Control (TBC) module is missing for 5 seconds or longer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern

- TBC (Trailer Brake Control) module

- ABS module

PINPOINT TEST AA : DTC U0137:00

AA1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AA2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AA2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Connect the scan tool.

- Using a scan tool, carry out the Network Test.

Does the TBC (Trailer Brake Control) module pass the Network Test?

Yes
GO to AA3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AA3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE AND TBC (Trailer Brake Control) MODULE SELF-TESTS

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- ABS Module.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- TBC (Trailer Brake Control) Module.

Is DTC B11E8:16 (or B1318) or DTC B11E8:17 (or B1317) recorded?

Yes
For ABS module DTC B11E8:16, GO to Pinpoint Test P. Pinpoint Test P: DTC B11E8:16

For ABS module DTC B11E8:17, GO to Pinpoint Test Q. Pinpoint Test Q: DTC B11E8:17

For TBC (Trailer Brake Control) module DTCs, REFER to Trailer Brake Control Module.

No
GO to AA4.

AA4 RECHECK THE ABS MODULE DTCs

- Using a scan tool, clear the ABS module DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- ABS Module.

Is DTC U0137:00 still present?

Yes
GO to AA5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AA5 CHECK FOR DTC U0137:00 IN OTHER MODULES

- Using a scan tool, clear all CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- All CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0137:00 set in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) ?

Yes
INSTALL a new TBC (Trailer Brake Control) module. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the ABS module self-test.

No
INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.
