Pinpoint Test R: The Stability/Traction Control Indicator (Sliding Car Icon) Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the stability/traction control data from the ABS module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) flashes when the vehicle stability/traction control is in active mode or is being controlled by the ABS module or illuminates solid when an ABS concern exists. The IC (Instrument Cluster) monitors the stability/traction control message and illuminates or flashes the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) as requested. If the stability/traction control message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0121 and defaults the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) on.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- ABS module
- IC (Instrument Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST R : THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR (SLIDING CAR ICON) IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
NOTE: When a MyKey(R) programmed key is in use and the AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is configured always on, the traction control system cannot be disabled and the traction control indicator does not turn on when the traction control disable button is pressed. The traction control indicator still functions normally to indicate a traction control system fault and a traction control active event.
R1 CARRY OUT THE IC (Instrument Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC (Instrument Cluster) DataLogger.
- Select the IC (Instrument Cluster) stability/traction control indicator (TC/IVD/RSC_L) active command. Command the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) on and off while observing the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon).
Does the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes
GO to R2.
No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
R2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
For DTC U0121, GO to Pinpoint Test AW. Pinpoint Test AW: DTC U0121
For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes
No
GO to R3.
R3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the ABS module self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems.
No
If the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time.
If the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) is always on, INSTALL a new ABS module. TEST the system for normal operation.
