Pinpoint Test P: The Voice Guidance Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly
Normal Operation - Expedition
The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the front speakers. The voice guidance volume can be adjusted using the settings on the Audio Front Control Module (ACM).
Navigator
The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the instrument panel speaker. The volume can be adjusted using the settings on the ACM (Audio Front Control Module). The ACM (Audio Front Control Module) sends the voice guidance audio signals to the audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module through a dedicated pair of circuits.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Incorrect voice guidance setting
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module (Navigator only)
- ACM (Audio Front Control Module)
PINPOINT TEST P : THE VOICE GUIDANCE IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
P1 CHECK THE VOICE GUIDANCE SETTING
- Adjust the voice volume to approximately 50%. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Set a destination and start the route using the navigation controls. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Observe the voice guidance.
Does the voice guidance operate correctly?
Yes
The concern was caused by an incorrect customer setting. INSTRUCT the customer in the correct use of the voice guidance feature.
No
GO to P2.
P2 CHECK THE SPEAKER OUTPUT
- Carry out the speaker walk test. Refer to Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode Service and Repair.
Do the front speakers (Expedition only) or instrument panel speaker (Navigator only) operate correctly?
Yes
For Expedition, GO to P6.
For Navigator, GO to P3.
No
For Expedition, GO to Pinpoint Test D. Pinpoint Test D: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers) - Expedition With Navigation
For Navigator, GO to Pinpoint Test E.
P3 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP (Digital Signal Processing) MODULE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Module C2364C.
- While adjusting the voice volume setting up and down (refer to the Owner's Literature), measure the AC voltage between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-16, circuit RMN07 (VT).
Is a fluctuating AC voltage present each time the voice volume setting is adjusted?
Yes
GO to P7.
No
GO to P4.
P4 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNALS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: ACM (Audio Front Control Module) C240A.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to P5.
P5 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNALS FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) C240A-2, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground.
- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) C240A-14, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side; and between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module C2364C-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module and the ACM (Audio Front Control Module), and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module and ground?
Yes
GO to P6.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
P6 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Front Control Module) OPERATION
- Connect: Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Module C2364C.
- Disconnect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new ACM (Audio Front Control Module). REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
P7 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO DSP (Digital Signal Processing) MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) module. REFER to Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
