Halfshaft - LH
Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.
2. Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Wheels and Tires Removal and Replacement.
3. Remove and discard the wheel hub nut.
4. Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut.
5. NOTICE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.
Using the Ball Joint Separator and Adapter, separate the lower arm from the ball joint stud.
6. NOTICE: The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees. Damage to the halfshaft will occur.
Using the Front Wheel Hub Remover, press out the halfshaft from the wheel hub and detach the LH halfshaft from the wheel hub.
- Support the halfshaft.
7. NOTICE: Do not damage the transaxle seal when removing the LH halfshaft.
Using the Slide Hammer, the extension from the Halfshaft Remover and the Halfshaft (Plate) Remover, remove the LH halfshaft from the transaxle.
8. Remove and discard the halfshaft circlip.
Installation
1. Install a new halfshaft circlip.
2. NOTE: Make sure the circlip is fully engaged by pulling on the joint housing.
Install the LH halfshaft into the transaxle.
3. Using the Halfshaft Installer, install the LH halfshaft into the wheel hub.
4. Insert the lower arm ball joint stud into the lower arm and install a new nut.
- Tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).
5. NOTICE: Install and tighten the new wheel hub nut to specification. Always install a new wheel hub nut after loosening or when not tightened to specification or damage to the components may occur.
NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
Install a new wheel hub nut.
- Tighten to 280 Nm (207 lb-ft).
6. Install the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Wheels and Tires Removal and Replacement.
7. Top off the transmission fluid level.
