Steering Column Switches

Steering Column Switches

Overview

The steering column switches are located on or around the steering column, this gives the driver the ability to control various vehicle functions and remain focused on the task of driving. Depending on vehicle options, the steering column switches consist of the following:
- Multifunction switch - mounted on the left side of the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) and can be serviced separately. For additional information, REFER to Multifunction Switch.
- Steering wheel switches - mounted on the front of the steering wheel and can be serviced separately from the steering wheel. For additional information, REFER to Steering Wheel Switches.
- Wiper washer switch - mounted on the right side of the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) and can be serviced separately. For additional information, REFER to Wiper and Washer Switch.
- Pedal adjust switch - mounted on the left side of the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) just below the multifunction switch and can be serviced separately. For additional information, REFER to Pedal Adjust Switch.

The steering column switches interface with the other modules and components on the vehicle through the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module). For additional information, REFER to Steering Column Control Module (SCCM).

Component Description

Multifunction Switch

The multifunction switch is a multiple position switch controlled by a lever. The multifunction switch controls the turn signal, headlamp low/high beam and headlamp dimmer/flash-to-pass functions.

For additional information on the turn signals, REFER to Turn Signals Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps.

For additional information on the headlamp low beams, REFER to Low Beams Headlamps.

For additional information on the headlamp high beams, REFER to High Beams Headlamps.

For additional information on the headlamp dimmer/flash-to-pass functions, REFER to Flash-To-Pass Headlamps.

Steering Wheel Switches

The steering wheel switches are comprised of 2 switch clusters mounted on each side of the steering wheel facing the driver. Each switch cluster contains 3 rocker switches and a 5-way directional switch pad.

The 5-way directional switch pad on the left switch cluster controls the message center display. For additional information, REFER to Steering Wheel Switch - Message Center Message Center.

The 3 rocker switches on the left switch cluster control the adaptive or non-adaptive cruise control. For additional information on non-adaptive cruise control, REFER to Steering Wheel Switch Function Cruise Control - Adaptive. For additional information on adaptive cruise control, REFER to Steering Wheel Switch Function Cruise Control - Non Adaptive (adaptive cruise control).

The 5-way directional switch pad on the right switch cluster controls the infotainment display. For additional information, REFER to Steering Wheel Switches Information and Entertainment Systems - Premium (premium), REFER to Steering Wheel Switches Information and Entertainment Systems - Premium Plus (premium plus) or REFER to Steering Wheel Switches Information and Entertainment Systems - Sony Sound ( Sony(R) Sound).

The 3 rocker switches on the right switch cluster control the audio system (premium audio) or the SYNC(R) hands free system (all other audio). For additional information, REFER to Steering Wheel Switches Information and Entertainment Systems - Premium (premium), REFER to Steering Wheel Switches Information and Entertainment Systems - Premium Plus (premium plus) or REFER to Steering Wheel Switches Information and Entertainment Systems - Sony Sound ( Sony(R) Sound).

Steering Column Control Module (SCCM)

The SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) is attached to the steering column, behind the steering wheel. The SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) receives inputs from the following items and then controls the output directly or transmits the information as messages on either the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network) or the LIN (Local Interconnect Network).
- Multifunction switch
- Pedal adjust switch
- Steering wheel rotation sensor
- Steering wheel switches
- Wiper washer switch

The SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) also provides a "pass-through" circuit path for various components and/or features:
- Driver air bag module
- Horn
- Steering wheel switch illumination

The SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) monitors all of the inputs it receives and is capable of setting DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

Wiper and Washer Switch

The wiper and washer switch is a multiple position switch controlled by a lever. The wiper and washer switch controls the front windshield wipers, front windshield washers, rear window wiper and rear washer.

For additional information on the front wipers and washers, REFER to Wipers and Washers - Front Wipers and Washers - Front.

For additional information on the rear wiper and washer, REFER to Wipers and Washers - Rear Wipers and Washers - Rear.

Pedal Adjust Switch

The pedal adjust switch is a momentary contact, rocker style switch used to adjust the position of the brake and accelerator pedals. For additional information, REFER to Pedal Adjust Switch Description and Operation.
