Rear Brake Hose Replacement (Disc Brakes)

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution (Brake Fluid Irritant Caution).

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.





Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.


4. Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.

Important: Do not bend the brake pipe or the bracket.


5. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the brake hose retainer clip (6) from the brake hose (2) mounting bracket.
6. Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake hose bracket (4).
7. Remove the brake hose bolt (1) from the brake caliper.
8. Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake caliper.
9. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets (3). These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
10. Install a rubber plug into the brake hose bolt hole of the brake caliper in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

Installation Procedure

1. Remove the rubber plug from the brake caliper.





Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3).


2. Assemble the brake hose bolt (1) and the NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3) to the brake hose (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

3. Install the brake hose bolt (1) to the brake caliper.

Tighten the brake hose bolt at rear brake caliper to 43 N.m (32 lb ft).

Notice: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

Important: Use the stripe on the brake hose in order to align the brake hose with the notch in the brake hose bracket.


4. Install the brake hose (2) to the brake hose bracket (4).
5. Install the brake hose retainer clip (6) to the brake hose (2).
6. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
7. Connect brake pipe fitting to the brake hose; use a backup wrench on the hose fitting. Do not bend the bracket or pipe.

Tighten the fitting to 21 N.m (15 lb ft).

8. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Service and Repair)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Service and Repair).
9. Install tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
10. Lower the vehicle.
