Exhaust Manifold Replacement (L52)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in Service Precautions.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Remove the exhaust seal.
2. Remorse the exhaust manifold heat shield.
3. Remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts





4. Remove the exhaust manifold and the gasket from the engine. Discard the gasket.
5. Clean and inspect the exhaust manifold.

Installation Procedure





1. Place a NEW exhaust manifold gasket on to the cylinder head.





2. Position the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
3. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the exhaust manifold bolt threads.
4. Install the exhaust manifold bolts.






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence.
5.1. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
5.2. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
5.3. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
7. Install the exhaust seal.
