Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
CRANKSHAFT BALANCER AND HUB REPLACEMENTRemoval
^ Tool Required
- J24420-B Crankshaft Pulley Hub Puller, or equivalent
1. Disconnect the negative batted cable.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Cooling System.
3. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolts.
4. Remove the hub bolt of the crankshaft pulley.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Position the J 24420-B or equivalent onto the crankshaft pulley hub.
7. Turn the puller screw clockwise. This will remove the hub from the crankshaft.
Installation
^ Tool Required
- J 29113 Crankshaft Pulley Hub Installer, or equivalent
1. Coat the front cover seal contact area with engine oil.
2. Apply RTV sealer or equivalent to the keyway in the crankshaft.
3. Install the key into the keyway on the crankshaft.
4. Install the pulley hub into position over the key on the crankshaft.
5. Install the crankshaft pulley hub installer through the hub and into the crankshaft so that at least 6 mm (0.24 inch) of threads are engaged.
6. Pull the crankshaft pulley hub into position against the J 29113 or equivalent
7. Remove the crankshaft pulley hub installer from the crankshaft.
8. Make sure that the hub is seated against the crankshaft.
9. Position the crankshaft pulley over the crankshaft pulley hub.
10. Install the crankshaft pulley bolts.
^ Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.)
11. Install the crankshaft pulley to hub bolt.
^ Tighten the crankshaft pulley to hub bolt to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.)
12. Install the drive belt. Refer to Cooling System.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
