Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair

Electro-Hydraulic Control Unit:






Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle
3. Two 13 mm weld/shield nuts fastening the shield and the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) to the Electro-Hydraulic Control Unit (EHCU) mounting Bracket.
4. Four electrical connectors from Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).
5. Electrical connector from combination valve.
6. Front and rear brake pipes from combination valve.
7. Three hydraulic line from the tube adapters on the BPMV.
8. EHCU assembly from vehicle.
9. Four T-25 Torx bolts from EBCM.
10. EBCM from BPMV. A light amount of force may be necessary to remove the EBCM.

CAUTION:
- Do not pry on the EBCM or BPMV. Excessive force will cause damage to the EBCM
- Do not reuse the EBCM gasket or mounting bolts. Always install a new gasket and new bolts.

11. Three Allen bolts from the combination valve.
12. Combination valve from the EBCM.
13. Two transfer tubes.
14. Three 13 mm bolts retaining the BPMV to the base bracket.

Install or Connect

NOTE: Do not reuse the transfer tubes. Always install new transfer tubes.

1. New transfer tubes into the combination valve until fully seated.
2. Combination valve to BPMV.
3. Three Allen bolts - tighten in two steps.
a. First to 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.)
b. Second to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)

4. New EBCM gasket to EBCM.

CAUTION: Don't use RTV or any other sealant on the gasket or mating surfaces.

5. EBCM to BPMV inspecting gasket to verify proper alignment.
6. Four new EBCM Torx bolts.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (3 ft. lbs.) in an X pattern.

7. Three 13 mm EHCU to base bracket retaining bolts.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)

8. EHCU on to the vehicle.
9. Front and rear brake pipe to combination valve.
- Tighten pipe fittings to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)

10. Three hydraulic lines to tube adapters on BPMV.
11. The 2-way connector to combination valve.
12. Four electrical connectors EBCM.
13. Two 13 mm weld/shield nuts fastening the shield and the BPMV to the EHCU mounting Bracket.
14. Lower Vehicle.
15. Negative battery cable.
16. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Antilock Brake System, Service and Repair. Service and Repair
