Overhaul

Caliper Components:





NOTE: Tool Required: J 26267 Piston Seal Installer or equivalent

Remove or Disconnect
1. Caliper.
2. Drain all fluid from caliper.
3. Pad interior of caliper with clean shop towels.

NOTE: Use just enough air to ease the piston out of the bore. Even with the padding the piston can be damaged if it is blown out.

WARNING: Do not place your fingers in front of the piston in an attempt to catch or protect it when applying compressed air. This could result in serious injury.

Removing The Piston:





4. Piston (22).

Removing The Boot:





5. Boot (23).
^ Use care not to scratch the housing bore.

6. Piston seal (21).
^ Do not use any type of metal tool.

7. Bleeder valve (20).

NOTE: Clean bleeder valve, caliper bore, caliper passages, and piston with denatured alcohol. Use dry, filtered, compressed air to dry parts and blow out passages.

Inspect
Piston for scoring, corrosion, and any damage to the chrome plating. Replace if any of these conditions are found.

Caliper bore for scoring, pitting, or corrosion. Use crocus cloth to polish out any light corrosion. Replace the caliper if corrosion cannot be removed.

Install or Connect
1. Lubricate the new piston seal, caliper bore, and piston with clean brake fluid.
2. Piston seal (21).
^ Make sure the seal is not twisted in the caliper bore groove.
3. Boot (23) on piston (22).
4. Piston (22).

Installing The Caliper Boot:





5. Boot (23) into caliper housing counterbore using tool J 26267 or equivalent.
6. Bleeder valve (20).
^ Tighten bleeder valve (20) to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.)
